EDUCATION MATINEE 2019-20 – Pride and Prejudice

Dec 3 – 19, 2019

By Kate Hamill / Adapted from Jane Austen
Directed by Lisa Channer

Recommended Grade Level: 8–12

The Setting: Regency England, 1813

Suggested Areas of Study and Discussion: The Literature of Jane Austen, Rules of Courtship and Marriage in 18th Century England, Female Writers, Romantic Love

The Story: The outspoken Lizzy Bennet is determined to never marry, despite mounting pressure from society. But can she resist love, especially when that vaguely handsome, mildly amusing, and impossibly aggravating Mr. Darcy keeps popping up at every turn?! Literature’s greatest tale of latent love has never felt so theatrical, or so full of life than it does in this effervescent adaptation. Because what turns us into greater fools … than the high-stakes game of love? Bold, surprising, and timely, this Pride and Prejudice for a new era will captivate your literature students.

Performance Length: 2 ½ hours (including intermission)

Location: Park Square’s Proscenium Stage
