Back by popular demand – now with added music! Nina Simone’s velvet voice was unafraid to sing lyrics that cut right to the truth. In this powerful play with music, Simone writes the impassioned civil rights anthem “Mississippi Goddam” in a bombed Birmingham church, where she meets three strong women bound by tragic circumstance. Together, they sing their truth and rise triumphant with classics like “Sinner Man” and “Young, Gifted and Black.” Don’t miss these stellar performances by some of the Twin Cities’ best talent!

FROM THE PLAYWRIGHT:

“In her music, Nina Simone exorcised life’s demons. Her songwriting infuses the narrative I’m writing through the themes that were of utmost concern to her: colorism, the archetypes of the black woman throughout history, how she lived out the dreams that others had for her…and most importantly… how she had to learn to live her life on her terms.” –Christina Ham

WHY GO? “Every generation has to discover Nina Simone. She is evidence that female genius is real.” –Germaine Greer

WHO SHOULD YOU BRING? The people who help you stand up, be counted, and sing your truth.
