What is your role at Park Square? Describe your work and how you help to build a stronger Park Square.
I am the theatre’s second Executive Director in our 37 year history. The role has been redefined a very public one, with 50% of my time devoted to raising and stewarding major contributions. As one of the people on staff who helped define our brand, I’m still also the chief brand “apostle”, charged with protecting and serving our brand and the way we relate to audiences and the community at large.
What drives your support of theatre and Park Square?
My favorite spot in the theatre is the empty space between the edge of the stage and the first row of seats. The energy that opens up a young mind or touches the spirit of a long-time theatre fan flows through that space. It’s also the space that represents the connection between artists, stories and audience that is the heart of what we do.
Tell me a time that you felt proud of your work at Park Square. Describe how you got to that moment?
Two conversations come to mind. The first was with a subscriber who has shared our entire history from the first production. Hearing how the entire body of work, that huge collection of moments had inspired and sustained him helped me know that the work we do can truly affect someone for their whole life. The second conversation was with a teen seeing her first Park Square production. She had that same light in her eyes. I won’t be around when she’s seen the next 37 years of our work, but I knew at that moment that theatre would be essential to her the rest of her life.
